PROJECT FACTS

Stoneware & Co, once Louisville Stoneware and JB Taylor Company, has been in operation since 1815, producing hand crafted artisanal pottery.   This $7.0 M project consisted of the renovation of multiple existing historic warehouse buildings and the addition of a steel framed building to connect them.  The 34,000 square foot, four story, wood framed tower was in dire need of repairs, as its timber framed floors were sloping upwards of 12” in places.  Due to the low clearance heights, raising the floor to be level was the only option.  The floors were jacked into place and secured to their original, supplemented timber support columns.  A masonry elevator shaft and stair tower was added in order to bring the building up to code.

Deep micropile foundations support the added loads.  The building will house a restaurant and office space. The 7,000 square foot courtyard addition is constructed of steel tube columns, wide flange girders and steel bar joists, with metal roof deck.  The modern, reflective glass front contrasts the historic masonry walls on either side. The 45,000 square foot, two-story, historic warehouse also required upgraded in the form of supplemental, engineered wood framing in order to meet modern code requirements and support elevated loads.  This building will house pottery production spaces, retail stores, storage and a Speakeasy.
