PROJECT FACTS

This served as the Host Arena for the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games

The Indoor Equestrian Event Arena for the Kentucky Horse Park is intended to be a world class indoor equestrian event arena, designed to attract world class equestrian events.  It is also designed to serve as a multi-purpose arena for events such as concerts, trade shows and conventions.

The structure is designed by Brown + Kubican, PSC in partnership with the Thornton Tomasetti.  It consists of a steel roof structure with clear spans exceeding two-hundred feet, a composite steel beam and slab system at the suite level and a cast-in-place concrete slab and beam system at the concourse level.  The structure is braced with steel braced frames and concrete shear walls at the stair towers in the four corners of the structure and is founded on a combination of spread footings and drilled piers bearing on limestone bedrock.

The concept of implementing two structural engineering consultants has proven to be very effective.  Thornton Tomasetti brings a wealth of experience related to arenas and long span structures while Brown + Kubican, PSC offers experience with local building codes, site conditions and knowledge of the construction environment.
