PROJECT FACTS

New 2-story, 27,500 sq ft emergency operation center with hardened walls over a structural steel frame founded on shallow spread foundations bearing on bedrock.   Roof is hardened with a concrete slab on deck over joists.  The lateral resisting system utilizes a dual system of concentrically braced frames with reinforced masonry shear walls (at stair shafts) and incorporate rock anchors for uplift resistance.

The new CEOC serves the entire commonwealth during natural and civil disasters. The designers worked in partnership with Kentucky Division of Emergency Management (KYEM), the DMA, the Division of Engineering, and AECOM to design a state-of-the-art facility that supports 24/7/365 monitoring, and steps up during activation to support Kentucky’s 15 emergency support functions. The facility incorporates more current stand-alone and redundant design features with the latest technology and complies with DoD security standards. The facility also was designed to be compliant with the latest FEMA guidelines.
